Antichrist Superstar was heavy and technical, great lyrics, complex
story with complex references to alchemy, religions, philosophies, the
occult, poltical movements, social darwinism, and numerology. The
packaging itself is also very complex and clearly had a lot of thought
put into it with references to all of those mentioned in the lyrics,
but also with medical diagrams and meaningful color schemes.
Mechanical Animals was great because it (musically) was even more
technical. The lyrics weren't as dark as Antichrist Superstar on the
surface, but when analized is perhaps even more dark. References to
numerology, politcal movements, religions, philosophies, and alchemy
are still made, but combined with sex and drugs to fully disect
Hollywood and celebrity culture. The sound, while taking on a more
pop-oriented Electronic Glam Rock rather than Alternative Industrial
Thrash Metal, was pulled off with an amazing amount of flair and
precision. It's hard to believe that it was just meant to be an atempt
at making Glam Rock-esque music when it feels like a fully fleshed out
Glam Rock masterpiece. It might not have seemed as fleshed out as it
was if it wasn't for Manson's friend, Billy Corgan (lead singer of The
Smashing Pumpkins), who told him to go all the way with the concept
and not just hint at it.
So, if you've heard both of these albums in their entirety... Which
one did you like more and why?
BQ: Manson fans, what are your hopes for the new album they're putting
